The name Gates of Lodore has become synonymous with the canyon itself and the two names are used interchangeably. Lodore Canyon, located in the sprawling acreage of Dinosaur National Monument offers many miles of scenic wonderment. The Green River, once called the seeds-ke-dee by early native Americans was explored by major John Wesley Powell in 1869. The Gates of Lodore, deep within Dinosaur National Monument, is recognized as one of North America’s most beautiful river canyons. An archaeological treasure chest, Lodore also offers a wealth of beauty, history, and recreation.

The trail starts with a few steps and then is a level walk above the Green River. The trail ends at a view of the entrance to Lodore Canyon. The trail does not provide access to Lodore Canyon, which is impassable on foot.
